Wentworth Leisure Centre (Hexham FC)

I reckon I’ve probably driven straight past this one a dozen times without realising it housed a ground of sorts.

I remember seeing goalposts set up in the middle of the athletics track but never give it even a second’s thought. But a little digging made me realise there was more to it, although not much more.

But it is pleasingly stupid. There’s only one stand, a very modern but unique looking one, and tiny too. And although it may be handy for athletics spectators, for a football audience it’s pretty much pointless.

Situated level with the 18 yard box, and with an athletics track between it and the pitch, it’s probably one of the most pointless football stands in the country. But you know what? I’m desperate to take in a game from there.

That’s pretty much your lot really though. It’s not particularly spectacular, and doesn’t score a huge load of points for me. But that stand is definitely worth visiting to see with your own eyes.
