“Woah there Andy!” I hear you say, “we’ve been waiting for this.” What, you’ve been waiting for Garforth Rangers? “No, we’ve been waiting for a mistake. We’ve got you bang to rights this time. This is AFC Micklefield’s ground.”
Oh dear. This was their home, until they folded in 2004. Rangers, who have only been in existence since 1996, moved in instead. You owe me an apology.
In terms of what it’s like it’s certainly an odd one. It’s tucked away a little bit, but it’s still in a public park. You can walk around it and see everything there is to see.
Admittedly that’s basically just a stand which incorporates some dug outs, with a park bench on the opposite side, but at least it’s accessible.
I’d say it lacks a little bit of wow factor, which is a shame. There are some Scottish junior grounds that are similar but better, such as Ormiston’s Recreation Park. But it scores points for its unusual location and being able to look around it. So I’m going to put this down as a goody.
This week saw a banner go up by the club car park, or it’s the first time I’ve noticed it, with an image of what the stand should look like on completion. And it’s safe to say that looking from the same view, it’s definitely taking shape.
As ever, my FA Cup-themed book is available by clicking here. Thanks.
