Well I’m torn whether to shower this one in praise after the sheer relief of finding it, or tell the truth over how little I cared for the place.
I took these photographs during the club’s hiatus from the city, having spent a year playing their home games in Northampton. However they were in with those I lost when my phone broke, presumably gone forever.
Thankfully these and a few other grounds have now resurfaced, so whilst I was delighted to discover them, I can’t pretend I wasn’t disappointed at my visit.
Firstly, the entire stadium’s car park is a pay and display, meaning your visit needs to be brief or else you’ll be charged. Secondly, a giant casino takes up a huge chunk of the ground and is totally irrelevant.
There are some positives though. When I visited, the home dugout had been dumped outside, alongside some advertising hoardings. Which would be great to rummage around or just for a quick picture on the bench.
There’s also the fact that the club appear to have banned e-cigarettes, which is a quirky enough item to have on your forbidden list. Oh and they also seem to have used another dugout for a smoking shelter, and stuck a bike rack next to it to.
But even though it scores so positively on those fronts, and you can see inside as well, I’m giving it the thumbs down. The huge casino on the side makes it feel way too business-like.

Woodhorn Lane Update
It seems like another week with visible progress. The outside seems to have a huge amount of scaffolding up, with what appears to be insulation panels being attached to it. It’ll be interesting to see what covers those. Also, although the windows haven’t had glass fitted, there is some glass on site, with what appear to be windows on the other side of the stand in place. And we have window frames in place too. Exciting!
