Gedling Road (Arnold Town 1989-2008)

This was an odd visit that I’ve only just about figured out. Arnold Town moved out of here in 2008, but I didn’t realise when I visited.

A quick check on a non-league directory had Gedling Road as their home, and a quick look at Google Maps showed what very definitely looked like a football ground.

I arrived to find a banner for a differently named team, no clubhouse and, well, no stands. I was a bit confused and wondered if the gravel path around half the pitch was what looked blue from a satellite photo.

It wasn’t until I arrived home that I realised this used to be a football ground. The club have moved to the outskirts of town and the pitch is now just part of a park. Granted, this is one of the fancier playing fields you’ll ever see but it’s also incredibly confusing if you arrive expecting a football ground.

Worth visiting? Not really, unless you particularly like visiting football pitches. There’s no suggestion this used to be a stadium, so I’d personally advise you go straight to Arnold’s new home ten minutes up the road. We’ll go there next week.

Woodhorn Lane Update
I feel like this section should have a little theme tune or something. No idea what. We’ll workshop it over the next few weeks – send your own in if you’ve any suggestions. Anyway this week I took a couple of snaps of the ground from the opposite side to usual. Sorry if that’s ruined your week but I thought it might be a bit more interesting than the weekly brickwork update.
